Dearest Holy Father,
With immense joy I represent the unanimous feelings of professors, personnel, and students at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. These feelings are also my own, and I write to express our total and unconditional union with Your Holiness' person and intentions.
Many of us were present in St. Peter's Square last night. Thanking the Lord, we listened to the news of Your nomination as Successor of Peter. In the Square, crowded with Romans and people of every nation and language, you could truly feel the presence of the Holy Spirit who gives life to the Church. The joy everyone experienced for Your Holiness' election was sincere and manifest.
With all of our hearts, we want to assure Your Holiness of our spiritual closeness, both now and in the future, as well as our most fervent prayers for You and the Church. As I invoke Your Fatherly blessing over the entire academic community, I sincerely profess myself.
Your most devoted servant in Christ,
Prof. Msgr. Luis Romera
