Nikolaus Schapfl born in Munich in 1963. He studied musical composition in Salzburg and Vienna.

He gained international acclaim for his operatic version of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. His orchestral and ensemble music has been played by renowned orchestras and soloists. In addition to working in the classical and contemporary idioms, he has written musical scores for motion pictures, including for Oscar-winning director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Actually, he is working on an operatic version about the life of the Italian painter Caravaggio.
