“Educative role of Philosophy”. The XXII Conference of the Faculty, February 23 and 24

From February 23 to 24, 2015, the XXII Seminar of the Philosophy Faculty took place, on the theme “Philosophy as Paideia”. Further, the educative role of this discipline was explored, from historical-philosophical, theoretical and didactic-pedagogical perspectives.

Three round tables there was, focusing on the many educative aspects of philosophy; particularly, its impact on the “scholastic and academic” world (speakers will be prof. Giacomo Samek Lodovici, from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, and Prof. Maria Teresa Russo, from the University of “Roma Tre” Studies), in the “professional life” (speakers will be Prof. Benedetta Giovanola, from the University of Macerata, Eng. Nuzio Miritillo, President Ericsson Mediterranean Region, and Prof. Francesco Perillo, from the University “Suor Orsola Benincasa” of Naples), as well as in the “formation of man and the Christian” (with participation of the Rector of Holy Cross, Mons. Luis Romera, and of Prof. Giuseppe Savagnone, from Lumsa of Palermo).

Prof. Arturo Bellocq awarded the International prize "Economy and Society", youth category, from the Vatican foundation "Centesimus Annus"

Rev. Arturo Bellocq, teacher in the Moral Theology department, was awarded the International prize “Economy and Society”, promoted by the Vatican foundation Centesimus Annus - Pro Pontifice, within the category of young doctorate researchers of Church Social Doctrine.
In 2012 Bellocq published, through Edicep-Edusc edition, the study La doctrina social de la Iglesia. Qué es y qué no es, second volume of a MCE books series.

Study Day "Ratzinger and Daniélou addressing the mystery of history"

Thursday February 12 and Friday 13, 2015, in collaboration with the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Foundation and the Patres and Fraternità San Carlo Association, the University hosted study days on the theme Ratzinger and Daniélou addressing the mystery of history.

The Library has received funding for the development and implementation of the catalogue open source Koha

The Italian Group Koha, of which our Library is the co-founder, has received funding from EBSCO to develop and implement the software open source Koha. This contribution will improve the system of researching bibliography material within the same electronic catalogue.

Starting February a masters in seminarian formation and a course on Ars praedicandi, promoted by the Center for Priestly Formation

Starting February 19, 2015, the Center for Priestly Formation begins the 2ª edition of the Masters in seminarian formation, a 44 hour course over two semesters for the ongoing formation of priest students in Rome.

Among the objectives of the masters, which is sponsored by the Congregation for the Clergy, is the improvement of skills in the context of completing formation projects, knowledge of the maturation processes of seminarians so as to better help them develop their skills, and preparation in the various forms of spiritual guidance.

The program will thus concentrate on areas of human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral formation and on the organization of the seminary.

On February 25 the Seminar on Ars praedicandi will begin.

Entitled Classical rhetoric and modern communications at the service of Evangelization, the course, lasting 12 hours total, seeks to aid priests with adequate preparation for preaching, departing from studies of classical rhetorical and offering practical applications.

Academic Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Patron of the Theology Faculty

Tuesday January 20 2015, the Theology Faculty celebrated the Academic Feast of their Patron, St. Thomas Aquinas.
After the Holy Mass in the Basilica San'Apollinare, the Rev. Prof. Robert Wielockx (10.45 am, Aula Magna "Giovanni Paolo II") spoke on St. Thomas concerning certitude and freedom.

Students of the Missouri-Columbia Journalism School visit the University

Friday January 16 2015, students from the Missouri-Columbia Journalism School, visited the University, accompanied by Professors from the Communications Faculty, as part of the program Europe Tour 2015 in Rome.
Among their other activities, the group visits St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums and tours the historic city center.

SER. Mons. Juan Ignacio Arrieta, Secretary of the Pontifical Council of Legislative Texts, had a speech on the theme Prerequisites for a renewal of the central organization of the Church.
