On 27 September 2014, the Beatification of Mons. Álvaro del Portillo, first Grand Chancellor of the University
The Holy Father Francis has authorized the Congregation of Cause of the Saints to promulgate the Decree concerning the miracle, attributed to the intercession of the Venerable Servant of God Álvaro del Portillo, Titular Bishop of Vita, Prelate of the Personal Prelature of Santa Croce and Opus Dei, and first Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical University of Santa Croce.

The ceremony of Beatification was held on September 27, 2014 in Madrid (Spain), his hometown. Other spiritual activities was organized in Rome the days following.
To mark the 100th year anniversary of Mons. del Portillo's birth, the University organized from 12 to 14 March 2014 the Congress "Vir Fidelis multum laudabitur".
Proposed to follow are two filmed testimonies of Cardinals Camillo Ruini, President emeritus of the Italian Episcopal Conference, and Carlo Caffarra, the current Archbishop of Bologna.
