Course overview
Prerequisites:
The student can enter this level either if he or she had completed Greek I B in one of the former courses organized by the Polis Institute or if he or she has succesfully passed the placement test during the first day of the summer course.
Course Description:
This course is designed for students who have already learned Greek to various degrees, and have some experience speaking.
Course topics:
Absolute Genitive
Infinitive clause
Syntax of subjunctive and complex sentences
Final elements of the morphology of the language (Optative, Imperfect, Perfect, Periphrastic tenses).
Development of thematic vocabulary
Three Koine Greek texts will be studied during the course (some 20 pages in Greek)
Goals
Fluency reading in Koine Greek. Ability to understand directly, without translating, more Koine Greek texts (mainly texts of the Septuagint). Active assimilation of 2,500 words. This course will reach at least chapter 14 of the Polis Level Two course book.

Class format:
Extensive text reading. Greek paraphrases of the texts that are read. Explanations given only in Greek.

Exams and grading system
Three written exams for the whole duration of the course. For each exam, several morphology and syntax exercises as well as an essay in Greek are required.
Grade:
A: Excellence: 96 - 100%
B: Above the average standard: 86 - 95%
C: Average standard: 76 - 85%
D: Below the average standard: 66 - 75%
E: Minimum criteria to pass: 60 - 65%
E: Fail: 0 - 59%
