Philosophical Perspectives and Neuroscience

The problem of consciousness and personal identity is prominent among the great questions of cognitive science and philosophy. Classical philosophy considered consciousness from the metaphysical and epistemological perspective. Contemporary phenomenology and philosophy of mind develop further aspects such as intentionality, subjectivity, unconscious knowledge, bodily awareness, and relationship with other minds. Neuroscience addresses these topics from the perspective of the neural basis, adding new insights to the problem. A clarification is needed to distinguish and integrate the different meanings of consciousness. This conference aims to offer an interdisciplinary approach between philosophy and neurobiology in all these issues.

In order to cover the expenses of this Annual Conference, a participation fee of € 70 is required (Students from other universities and alumni of this university: € 50).

Students enrolled at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross are exempted from fee and online registration.
