Seminar Day

Mercy and Law in Marriage

Rome, May 22, 2014

On occasion of the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the family this day aims to stimulate reflections on the importance of mercy in canon law concerning marriage, taking into account of the current pastoral difficulties regarding the family.
After a theological report, followed by a canonical one, on the question of the relationship between mercy and justice, four aspects of Church practices on this matter will be examined:  the admission to marry, accompaniment of families, especially those in crisis, processes to nullify a marriage, and pastoral care for faithful who are civilly divorced and remarried.
